TWENTY-FOUR TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN SAMSUNG NBA SUMMER LEAGUE 2014

Posted on May 27, 2014

NEW YORK, May 27, 2014 - Twenty-four teams, including the Utah Jazz, which will be making its first appearance, will compete in this year’s Samsung NBA Summer League July 11-21, at the Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

The Jazz will join 22 other NBA teams and a team of NBA Development League select players in a tournament-style format to crown the Samsung NBA Summer League Champion. Teams will compete in three preliminary round games from July 11-15, before being seeded in a tournament running through the Championship Game on July 21. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games.

This summer, 10 of the 12 teams that own Lottery picks in the 2014 NBA Draft presented by State Farm will take the court at Samsung NBA Summer League, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers, who are slated to make the top three picks in this year's Draft. Each team is expected to choose from an impressive crop of prospects that includes Australia's Dante Exum, Duke's Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins from Kansas, and Kentucky's Julius Randle. Samsung NBA Summer League will feature many of these top prospects in their first taste of NBA action, along with other recent high draft picks, as well as undrafted rookies and free agents hoping to make their mark.

The 2014 summer marks the event's 10th anniversary and will feature four teams that have competed every summer in Las Vegas (overall Summer League record in Las Vegas): Denver Nuggets (25-20, .556); Phoenix Suns (24-22, .522); Washington Wizards (22-24, .487) and Cleveland Cavaliers (21-25, .457).

Last summer, both the Golden State Warriors (29-13, 0.690) and the Suns entered the inaugural NBA Summer League Championship game undefeated at 6-0. The Warriors, behind Ian Clark’s 33-point MVP performance, finished with a perfect 7-0 record and captured the inaugural Summer League Championship with a 91-77 victory over the Suns. Clark, who was not drafted by an NBA team in 2013, went on to sign with the Utah Jazz, and spent the entire 2013-14 season on the team’s roster.

NBA TV will televise Samsung NBA Summer League games from Las Vegas with a complete schedule of games and broadcast information to be released at a later date. Additionally, fans will once again be able to watch, via a subscription-based package, every Samsung NBA Summer League game live on NBA.com and on the NBA Summer League app.

Samsung, the official handset, tablet, and television provider of the NBA, Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and NBA D-League (NBA D-League), joins as the title partner of NBA Summer League for the first time this summer.
